Canadian Tire Jumpstart is a community-based charitable program that helps kids in financial need aged 4 -18 participate in organized sports and recreation such as hockey, dance, soccer and swimming so they can develop important life skills, self esteem and confidence. This scholarship was established in 1987 by the investment bank Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette along with members of the Class of 1968. The award is in memory of William R. Fisher, a valued employee and treasured classmate, who passed away in 1983. The scholarship is merit-based and supports some of Darden's most promising students. Canadian Tire sponsors two scholarship programs: Fourteen A.J. Billes Scholarships available to children of all employees of Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited, its subsidiaries, its Associate Stores and its Petroleum Agents and two Muriel G. Billes Scholarships available only to children of employees of Canadian Tire Corporation.

The key with programs offered by these companies is to not be afraid to ask for them from your employer. Speaking from experience, employers won't go out of their way to tell you about such programs.

Also, it is important to ask about periodic pay raises. Some companies offer pay raises from time to time after employee performance reviews are completed. Again, speaking from experience employers won't go out of their way to let you know when you are due for a performance review. Although it shouldn't be the case, it is up to you to advocate for yourself when you are due for a pay raise.
